Fat Tuesday or Mardi Gras is celebrated across southern Louisiana by going to parades, elaborate costume balls and eating lots of delicacies. The official celebration begins on the "Twelfth Night" after Christmas with festive Mardi Gras balls. Parades begin to follow shortly after with highly decorated floats, people in costumes throwing beads and other gadgets.
