In the hustle and bustle of 2007 relaxation is often pushed aside as we tend to the mundane tasks of our existence. Some people believe relaxation is not meant for everyone, I disagree. I also believe that ultimately each of us relaxes in our own way. The link between all of us is our five senses. The best way to induce and maintain relaxation is by letting your five senses be your guide. Surround yourself with those things that pleasure each sense. Relaxation is about pleasure.

To satisfy your sense of smell, burn candles with a scent you enjoy or use essential oils to aromatically fill the air. Depending on the type of relaxation or pleasure you are seeking different scents will help you get there. If you are looking to be energized and come alive with creativity try peppermint, rosemary, lemon or eucalyptus. If you wish to feel sensual reach for a scent with aphrodisiac properties, such as Jasmine, Patchouli, Sandalwood, Vetiver, Ylang Ylang, Vanilla, Neroli or Rose. Despite the scientifically exhibited uses of certain scents you want to always use your nose to find the scents that are right for you. If you do not like a scent it will definitely not make you feel anything more than nausea, so pick something that you like. Allow scents to take on new meanings.

Indulge your sense of touch with a luxurious blanket to cozy up with. Splurge on those 900 thread count sheets, you deserve it; especially since the average person will spend 1/3 of their life sleeping. Allow yourself to really feel how amazing different fabrics feel against it. Experiment until you find yourself completely devoured by your sense of touch.

Keep your mind mellow, ready to experience deep pleasure and relaxation, by using candlelight or softly colored light bulbs to lull your sight into relaxation. Make a place in your home just for you. Even if all you can spare is a comfy chair. It is also great if you can have a plant nearby or fresh flowers to entice your view. The key is surround yourself with things you enjoy looking at.

Takeaways
  • Relaxation can be found in pleasure, so aim for feeling pleased.
  • Surround yourself with things that please your senses.
