On Valentine's Day, many of us mope around the house about how we don't have a special someone in our lives, but the truth of the matter is, we usually do. Why ignore that best friend who has listened to you moan and groan about having no date on a Saturday night? Why snub your mom who is always good for a home-cooked meal? What about your father, who you are notorious for giving terrible gifts to on Father's Day? And your brother, who defended you when the bullies started swarming? Hallmark, Papyrus, Carlton Cards, and various retail stores are filled with balloons, candy, and greeting cards that say things like "I Love You" and "Be Mine." And don't you love your family? Friends? Co-workers? Don't be afraid to share your happiness with them.

Regardless of whether you have a boyfriend/girlfriend or husband/wife, don't exclude everyone else that holds a special place in your heart. Post a Valentine's Day comment for the people on your MySpace friends list. Order flowers for your mother. Get your father a gift card to somewhere that he really does go to more than once a year. Send an e-card to your boss, thanking her for hiring you. Don't forget about the receptionist who makes sure you get your packages on time and transfers your calls to the right extension.

Today, I want you to walk around with a sheet of paper, and write down all of the people who made you smile. For each one of them, think of something you can give them to make them smile too. Some people consider Valentine's Day as a day for stores to make a quick buck, but I say it's a day to give those special people in your life some much needed appreciation.

Did You Know?
One of the sweetest gifts I ever received on Valentine's Day was from my older nephew who made a point to save some classroom candy for me. He blushed when he gave it to me and I couldn't have been more proud to be his aunt that day.
