South Carolina Priest Tells Obama Supporters "No Communion" Until Penance

A shouting match ensued Sunday, November 16, outside the church between Barack Obama supporters and church members.
The Spirit One Christian Church has often been the center of controversy, posting inflammatory signs and messages on their church website, many of a political nature. Kansascw.com reports that they were investigated in 2007 for possible violations of their tax exempt status because of their open endorsements and statements about political candidates and issues.
The church maintains that it is protected under the Constitution's First Amendment.
That was the same defense Pastor Fred Phelps used when he defended himself and the Westboro Baptist Church against invasion of privacy charges. Westboro Baptist Church has become notoriously famous for its godhatesfags.com website and its highly controversial picketing of fallen American servicemen. They also come under considerable fire for their press releases and protests of famous people, such as Bernie Mac and George Carlin, who they refer to as "fag enablers."
Westboro Baptist Church is located in Topeka, Kansas.
Phelps and company recently issued a press release announcing they would be protesting then Senator Obama's grandmother's funeral. A portion of the press release reads: "Obama says his grandmother Dunham raised him, and, her "influence on his manner and the way he viewed the world was substantial." If so, then she has much to answer for as she stands before the Lord. Obama says he will use the White House as a Bully Pulpit to advance the cause of murdering more babies and same-sex marriage."

yes unfortunately this is what our world has come to today. if someone different comes along people judge. and why? because we've become so ethnocentric. this country is based on freedom and that includes religion. unfortunately we have sick people out there who only express such harsh opinions to see people's reactions and make them offended. but why? our religions no matter which one you believe in tells us to be respectful of other religions. yes even islam. so why do we present such hate onto different religions whether they are muslims or jews? its not for us to judge.
Huh ... you know, in a country that prides itself on the freedom of religion, we are an awfully judgmental lot. You can have any religion you want, unless you want to run for highest office. Suddenly you have to pass the litmus test of a bunch of preachers and fringe groups that seem to be coming out of the woodwork. I don't know how I feel about that.

I called Spirit and spoke to a woman there who said that she know the President was Moslim because he was sworn in on a Koran. I guess they think Rep. Ellison D-MN is President. I corrected her and suggested she look it up. She still maintained that Obama was Moslim even though he said he was Christian and had attended the same church for over 20 years. She insisted that did not make him Christian. She insisted that she was Christian so I wonder if she's Jewish or Buddist.

I can not believe that a Pastor representing Christ, would post such a negative, unamerican, unchristian like message. This is what gives us Christians a bad rep. This is why many people do not consider /or are turn off on organized religion. This message from Churches and Pastors are the ones who turn thirsty/hungry people away from Christ. Now that is a SIN!Real followers of Christ reach out in LOVE rather than inciting hate or discrimination and/or racism in church. The Bible clearly states that Jesus went to the unsaved, prostitutes, thiefs and murders... not separate himself from them. That was Jesus' whole purpose of being born unto the Virgin Mary. Not to preach to the saved.... !!!????I feel sorry for your church members as I believe they are following a modern day "Pharasee" or better yet, a wolf in sheeps clothing.

The sad thing is that the pastor and the leaders of the church know they are lying. With the increased scrutiny there is often an increase in donations.
Whatever Mr. Obama's religion, it is between himself and God. This pastor is a typical example of those "Christians" who give Christianity a bad name. Don't all major religions command us to love on another? There will always be extremists, unfortunately.
