Name a character from your favorite television sitcom and an image is likely to appear in your head. Whether it's a short, stocky, slow-witted bald man named Costanza, a liberal mustachioed meathead dead from the neck up, or a zany redhead just dying to break in to show business, the facial features and movements of a television character, the voice and their presence on-screen bring back memories of however many episodes they appeared in.

But what of those rare characters we learned so much about that we never got to see? Those characters, in my opinion are every bit as interesting (if not more so) than those we spent so much time watching on-screen. And they didn't cost the producers a single red cent. Here are my top five television characters we never got to see.

1. Let's start with Vera Peterson. Ya know, Norm's wife on "Cheers." She calls Cheers all the time looking for Norm, who spends most of his time at Cheers in order to avoid her. Norm makes endless jokes at her expense, but deep down he loves her. In fact we all do. And we almost got to see her one wild and whacky Thanksgiving. And then she took a pie to the face, and the mystery lived on.

2. Bob Saccamano on "Seinfeld." We know a lot about Kramer's friend from New Jersey. He's a high-talker as a result of a botched surgery. He was once in a mental institution, where electro shock therapy was ineffective because his synapses were too large. He works in a condom factory. He once had rabies. His father lives in Florida and gets deals on Wizard electronic organizers (only they're not really Wizards, but cheap knock-offs). And most importantly, Bob Saccamano improved the invention of the paddle ball by adding the rubber cord.

Hi, Great article. You are so right. They are just as real as the well-known characters!! Everybody remembers Norms wife, and Maris. Although correct me if I'm wrong but didn't we finally see the Gooch in one episode? I seem to recall this. Maybe I'm thinking of another show. Oh well, Great job. Funny. Bye

Gotta love Bob Saccamano. Probably better we never say him - it's more intriguing and funny just to hear the name from Kramer in some bizarre story.
