John Wayne - an American Hero

John Wayne was an actor.
He was larger-than-life.
He could shoot with a pistol.
He could throw with a knife.

He was tall and strong.
He was rugged through and through.
He was an American icon.
His heart was true blue.

He was an American Patriot,
A politically conservative guy.
He was honest and decent
And would never tell a lie.

He had "True Grit"
In the roles that he played.
And his onstage presence
Would never fade away.

Whether a military hero
Or a sheriff with a cause,
He made sure that the bad guys
Paid for breaking the laws.

I'll remember John Wayne
Just like the "Alamo."
He was a hero to all
Both to friend and to foe.
