Armageddon was another in a series of Smackdown Pay per Views that was more entertaining than most fans would have bargained for. In what hopefully becomes a semi-regular feature, we will look at PPV's ranging from the last one at the time of the writing and seeing if it would be worth the purchase on DVD. There are various factors in whether or not an individual will purchase a DVD of a wrestling event. Match quality and historical value will be the two most concentrated on. The reviews will obviously not be written for people who have to have every event ever made by WWE or TNA. This is for people with a more critical eye. We'll go match by match starting with.

MVP versus Kane (Inferno Match)

The match: The match itself was fine considering the restrictions of an Inferno match. In fact it seemed a little better than the two previous inferno matches.

Historical value: Too early to tell, except the match might have been the beginning of a storyline that will lead to a major match involving JBL when one considers the promo Bradshaw cut on the fans the Smackdown following the Pay Per View.

Watch or Skip: If you are intrigued by an inferno match and how it looks, this match is definitely recommended. Other than the spectacle of the fire, there is nothing here worth going out of your way to watch.

Paul London/Brian Kendrick versus the Hardy Boys versus MNM versus William Regal and Dave Taylor (Ladder match for the WWE tag team titles)

The match: This match was an awesome spectacle that even had a little psychology. There were spectacular bumps and innovative spots galore in this match. Depending on your wrestling calendar, it's either an early candidate for match of the year for 2007 or a late candidate for match of the year in 2006.

Historical Value: The most immediate value of this match is the injury to Joey Mercury, a ladder spot severely damaged the face of Mercury and will keep him out for at least a couple of months. Other than that, this was another in a long line of exciting ladder matches and well worth taking a look at.

Watch or Skip: A must watch, as good as it gets in WWE

Boogeyman versus the Miz

Takeaways
  • Smackdown has been putting on solid PPV's and television shows for months without fanfare
  • There were many historical moments considering it was a "throwaway show"
  • The ladder match is a must watch
Did You Know?
John Cena and Batista teaming was the first time champions from each brand teamed up (at least on tv)
