Today on January 11, 2007 the New York Daily Newspaper released a story stating that Barry Bonds had tested positive for the substance known as amphetamine. According to the report,
Breaking News Report: Barry Bonds Drug Test Came Back Positive for Amphetamines
Barry Bonds had tested positive for the drug months ago but this information did not leak out until very recently. The Daily News reporter, who would not name his sources, stated that this positive drug test will not harm Barry Bonds as he got off with only a warning from major league baseball.

Major League Baseball's drug test for amphetamines states that first time offenders receive only a warning but that a second time offense results in a 25 game suspension. Gene Orza of major league baseball stated that he had called Barry Bonds and spoke to him about the drug test. Barry Bonds then told Orza over the phone that he had received the amphetamines from the locker of his San Francisco Giants teammate, Mark Sweeney.

Mark Sweeney was then contacted and he firmly denied any such involvement with Barry Bonds and claimed that he does not use such drugs and did not he give Barry Bonds such drugs. These drugs Barry Bonds claimed he had taken, he pleaded ignorance to as he told Major League Baseball that he did not know what kind of substance they were when he took them.

Major League Baseball's amphetamine policy is different from the steroid policy and Barry Bonds will continue to play baseball without serving any kind of suspension. There was also speculation of how this positive drug test might affect his 2003 Grand jury testimony as authorities are trying to indict Barry Bonds on charges of perjury. However, most likely this positive test will not hinder Barry Bonds in any way.

When the reporters and the Daily News which broke the story tried to contact the San Francisco Giants front office, baseball officials stated "no comment" on the story. The Giants front office has repeatedly maintained a position to refrain from commenting on any legal or baseball maters involving Barry Bonds and drug use.

They do use it quite a lot in competitions. Personally I disagree with this method, but I certainly understand them. They want to be the best and they are, but using amphetamine or other substances. It's all about fair play, but all in all, there should be a serious program for these types of problems like in here: http://www.drugrehab.net/multimedia.php

Is this what happens when you pay someone too much money and treat them like a god?

Well, it's not going to end the world. But things like this send a rather poor message from people who are supposed to be role models. "Do whatever it takes to win," but in the Richard Nixon kind of way.
