Games testing careers have been around for many years. With the increase of games on sale, comes the increased need for games testers. It does appear, at first sighting, to be an amazing job with many benefits, but in
reality, the truth could be somewhat different.
Many reports on the internet suggest that games testing careers can earn you around $120 per hour and other similar and shocking statements. When you actually come to be a games tester, you realize that this statement is there to entice people into the sector and you will not earn nearly so much as you are promised. As with most things, the more work that you put in, the more money that you will get out of it, but who really wants to work twenty for hours a day, seven days a week?
Although games testing may sound like THE dream job, you must still remember that it is still a job, and like other jobs, you do have to work hard at it. Dedication, a careful eye and hard work are the three things needed to make this a successful career, and you need to be able to not only spot any potential flaws with the game that you are testing, but also have the ability to relay the problems back to the company that are employing you.
Once you have spotted a flaw and reported it to the company, they will send you the game back again, with the flaw hopefully fixed, and you will need to continue to play the same scene over and over again until it has been resolved. This can often mean playing the same scene of a game for fifteen, twenty times or more, depending on how long it takes for the issue to be sorted. This can become rather boring after a while, and you should remember that sometimes you may not even get to play the whole of the game.
