Going grocery shopping with your toddler, or any shopping for that matter, can be quite an adventure. That might be putting it mildly. Sometimes the word "adventure" is an understatement, especially when it seems our children are on a mission to drive us crazy. Shopping with your toddler doesn't always have to be a headache. Here are 5 simple steps that can help make shopping with your young child a little easier.

1. Bring a content toddler. Make sure your toddler is well fed and rested. If it's near nap or dinner time it may be a better to wait for a time to do your shopping. A hungry or tired toddler will make sure to let you know every step of the way he's not happy. It won't be a good experience for either you or your toddler.

2. Make shopping fun. Have your toddler help you shop. If you have an older toddler chances are they won't be happy sitting in your shopping cart for long. If you're grocery shopping, hand them the items to put in your cart. Not only does this keep them entertained but they feel accomplished.

3. Bring them something to drink and eat. Fill a little ziplock bag with crackers or one of their favorite snacks. Don't forget a spill proof cup filled with something for them to drink. This is especially important when grocery shopping. Most children will ask for whatever it is you're putting into your cart, especially if they see you sneak in those cookies. Be prepared with snacks and juice to distract them.

4. Pick a time to shop that won't be crowded. Avoid the payday rushes. If you find that you get annoyed having to fight your way through crowded isles you may find your toddler mimic your annoyance. Not only might you find yourself having to deal with finishing your shopping in a crowded area, but now you have a screaming toddler to contend with.
