Great American Smokeout Today

Get into Gear Try to Kick Those Butts Today

Today November 20th is the 33rd Great American SmokeOut. The first smoke out began back in 1977 when The American Cancer Society launched the very first smoke out day that appeared on the third Thursday in November. Every year smokers across the country try to do one of the hardest things
which is to give up their cigarettes for Great American SmokeOut even if it's only for one day. Smoking Cigarettes not only makes you sick in the end, but will shorten your lifespan. Think about it each cigarette you light up and smoke takes around 6 minutes off your life which is the approximate time it takes for you to finish your cigarette. What does that exactly mean? It simply means every minute you spend smoking your brains out will actually shorten your lifespan by that time.

Did you ever sit down and really think about what smoking can do to your body not only now but in long-term as well? Smoking causes really bad breath, severe wrinkles, makes your skin dry, stains your teeth, smelly clothes, slows up your sexual performance, Yellow fingernails, increase heart rate and more. That's what cigarettes are actually doing to you right now, which some people call short term. Now for long term smoking cigarettes can cause Heart Disease, Emphysema, Lung Cancer, Throat Cancer, Mouth Cancer, Bladder Cancer, Stomach Ulcers, Cataracts, Psoriasis, and even Fertility problems for men and women. Wow that sure is a lot of Cancer words going on pretty scary stuff even writing this is enough for me to try and quit smoking today on Great American Smokeout Day.

My husband's sister lost her husband and only child due to their smoking, and my best friend from high school died from it. I've lost many friends to smoking as well. I think it's the most wasteful and stupid thing that was ever invented. Prayers and best wishes to all trying to give it up.

I can tell by all the comments how important this subject is. It hits home very close with my family because my wife smokes and its a battle to quit. People that dont smoke will never know how hard it is to quit. My wife hasnt smoked for 1 month now and we are all very proud of her. Good article!!

Tobacco consumption seems to be declining in the U.S. The use of cigarettes has spiked in Asia and Mexico, though.

My son smokes. So does my first cousin. I don't like it but there is nothing I can do about it. They are both grown ups. My favorite uncle died in the late 90's, due to emphysema, which is a form of COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease). I also used to smoke about 14 years ago but I quit when I realized I was pregnant with my daughter, Crystal. It really is a nasty habit and it is also dangerous to your health. I am lucky that I stopped and I did not suffer any major consequences. Thanks for the insight.
