Julie Donaldson Sex Tape Stolen from Courtroom During Proceedings

Julie Donaldson Case Points to Something Darker

For those who haven't been following the Julie Donaldson assault case in Boston, you have chosen the wrong case to ignore. Like an improbably scripted soap opera, this case has twists galore. It is a tale that centers around an assault and a sex tape.

A Stolen Not-Stolen Sex Tape?

The latest development, as reported by the Boston Herald, concerns the alleged sex tape - actually the camera that stores the alleged sex tape. It came up missing after Ivan Lattimore's last court appearance. During the proceedings

in September, Lattimore had stashed the Sony Cyber-shot camera (and memory card) in his pants and walked out of the courtroom with it. The camera was evidence in the ongoing case against Lattimore for assaulting sports reporter Julie Donaldson and three other women at a party in June. It allegedly contains images of Julie Donaldson and Lattimore in sexual situations.

The camera was later recovered from Lattimore, who had secreted the camera in his underwear, at the Barnstable House of Correction, where he was being held.

The District Attorney's Office (Suffolk County) maintains it cannot charge Ivan Lattimore with theft of the camera because, technically, it was his camera. However, as evidence, he was barred from having it in his possession and could be used to lengthen his jail time.

Lattimore's lawyer, Timothy Bradl, had unsuccessfully attempted to have the case dismissed before Lattimore pleaded guilty in September. Bradl accused Julie Donaldson of destroying other sex tapes and photos that showed her and Lattimore engaged in consensual sexual situations of a sado-masochistic nature.

Ivan Lattimore is serving one year of a two-year sentence.

I don't know why people would blame the victim. I agree with Anne.

People often blame the victim in cases like this. Whenever a case of abuse is discussed, someone is bound to ask, "Why didn't she just leave?" Thank you for pointing out that it isn't that simple. Excellent report.
