Taylor Swift Sweeps Billboard Charts and Makes Billboard History

Taylor Swift is having the time of her 18 year old life right now as she just released her latest album Fearless last week. The album was built with much anticipation and all the marketing strategies are finally paying off.

The country singer will debut atop both the country and Top 200 albums chart this week. Her set Fearless moved just a few thousand shy of 600,000 copies in its first week. This makes it the highest number tallied for a country album since the Eagle's debuted their 30-year comeback album last year, exclusively sold at Walmart and Sam's Club stores and changing the rules of Billboard's Top 200.

Not only did she sell nearly 600, 000 copies, 131,000 of those copies were digitally downloaded from retailers such as iTunes and Rhapsody. Since Billboard started tracking digital sales only 4 years ago, this is the 4^th best selling week for downloading sales, adding to the new digital revolution that is taking place, overpowering traditional hardcopy CD sales.

On top of her album success, the young country singer also sees seven of her songs hit the Hot 100 album chart. The Hot 100 is combined of digital downloads, radio airplay and 5% on-demand streaming. Three of the seven songs, six of which are debuts, sit within the top 50 on Hot 100, including "White Horse" shooting straight to No. 13 and her hit single "Love Story" slipping to No. 18 from No. 14. "Forever & Always" goes for a No. 49 position with its first week on the chart. Swift has made Billboard history with the songs, having the most Top 20 songs on the Hot 100 in a calendar year.

On the Hot 100, Keith Urban cracked his first Top 50 song sitting at No. 43 with his new lead single from his upcoming project, "Sweet Thing." The country act has not had a Top 50 Hot 100 song in his career and if this song proves to be like any rest of the album, Urban may see more successes when the next single is released to radio. Urban has slowly built his name and is one of the most entertaining performers in the world with his electrifying guitar skills, his humble persona and his sex appeal.
