As human beings in a world where everyone is expected to know their coveted place, area of expertise, special talents, interests, or job, we are urged to find our specific niche or space within this world that helps define who we are as individual people. Of course not everyone will have a unique niche, but I due believe that each of us has something uniquely special about us. Some are more in tune and in touch with their gifts or skills, while the majority of folks are still discovering what it means to have purpose. Self-discovery is a natural almost primordial rite of passage. It is a rite of passage into self purpose.

You may not have a clue on how to begin this journey of self, so, I've included some questions that you can begin to ask yourself to open your mind to think freely and honestly about yourself.

1. What are your interests, hobbies, skills?

2.What do you wish to contribute to society, your community, yourself?

3. If you could get paid to do anything you wanted, what would it be?

4. What do most people compliment you on?

5. Is there is subject that a lot of people ask for your advice on?

6. Is there an area of interest that always captures your attention when you're reading a magazine, watching TV or listening to the radio?

Self discovery usually doesn't occur overnight. It usually takes some time, dedication, effort, a lot of brainstorming and some experimentation. You may need to try different jobs, skills, or hobbies before you realize your special talent. It may help to join a few organizations, volunteer on a committee, watch some professionals in action, or interview people that interest you. Staying in a constant state of remembrance of who you are on the inside is what will eventually lead you to yourself. The road will be difficult at times. My difficulty may be an ease to you and your difficulty may be and ease to me. No matter whose difficulty it is relief is inevitable.

Takeaways
  • Believe in your ability to find your purpose is a major first step
  • There is no time frame for self-discovery
