Baton Rouge, Louisiana is located 60 miles north of the Big Easy, New Orleans, Louisiana. It has become a favorite city for families to celebrate Mardi Gras since it is not quite as wild and crazy as New Orleans, LA. The exception to that rule, is one parade, Spanish Town, which never fails to astonish or disappoint (whichever your view might be) the crowd each year. Whether you are looking for a "normal" Mardi Gras parade if one can be called normal, or one with "risqué" content, you will find it in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I've compiled a guide to parades in the Baton Rouge area with a brief summary of each.

Parade Schedule for Baton Rouge & Surrounding Area

Saturday, February, 3, 2007: KREWE OF JUPITER, Downtown Baton Rouge @ 6:30 pm. This year's theme is
"NIGHTMARE ON 4th STREET." Website: www.kreweofjupiter.com

Friday, February 9th, 2007, KREWE OF ARTEMIS, Downtown, Baton Rouge @ 7:00 pm. This is an all female krewe that carries a New Orleans night time style. Artemis was a goddess who was the "Mistress of Animals and the protector of children."

Saturday, February 10th, 2007, KREWE MYSTIQUE de la CAPITALE, Downtown Baton Rouge, 2:00 pm. This is a family parade in it's 31st year in Baton Rouge.

Saturday, February 10th, 2007, KREWE OF ORION, Downtown Baton Rouge, 6:30 pm. This is a traditional New Orleans style parade with a theme this year of "Sideshow Spectacular".

Sunday, February 11th, 2007, MYSTIC KREWE OF MUTTS
DOG PARADE, North Blvd., 1:00 pm. Yes, you read the title correctly...this is a dog parade sponsored by 8th Annual CAAWS Mystic Krewe of Mutts Mardi Gras Dog Parade. All dogs will be in costume with the theme "Pawrates of the Carribean, Barkin for Bones and Treasure."

Saturday, February 17th, 2007, SPANISH TOWN MARDI GRAS PARADE, Downtown Baton Rouge, 12:00 Noon. The 2007 theme is "Quit Flocking Around and Pink Your Own Theme!" featuring King Kip Holden and Queen Roxanne Leachman with Bill Good as Grand Marshal. This parade consists of adult content and is not suitable for young children. Just be warned that your kids will be asking lots of questions if you bring them to this one.
