Like it or not, twins attract a lot of attention. As parents of two year old twins, my husband and I have always gotten a lot of questions and comments regarding our twins. Lucky for my husband and I, people seem to loose interest the older the twins get. We can now actually shop without being stopped every five feet or so. I think we've heard every question there is, ranging from the very personal to the very dumb. Here is a list compiled of the dumbest questions and comments we've gotten so far.

1. "How did you do that?" I thought this was pretty obvious. I'm not sure if people really expect some sort of secret tip we have on having twins, like I chanting, "Come on ovaries, give me two eggs." Like every other couple that has conceived children, we did it the old fashioned way.

2. "So I guess you're done then?" Maybe, maybe not. We have boy/girl twins. I'm not sure why people seem to think that because I have one of each sex, I'm automatically done having children. They may only want two but who's to say I don't want six?

3. "Who's older?" Call me crazy but I always thought twins were the same age. Most twin parents don't consider one twin older then the other. Both of my twins were born within a minute of each other. As far as I'm concerned they're the same age.

4. "Are they both yours?" Typically followed after the, "Are they twins?" question. Sometimes I feel like saying, "No, I stole one of them from the hospital."

5. "Are they identical?" People ask this question after finding out that one of my twins is a boy and one is a girl. I then have to explain that they can't be identical because one is female and one is male. My husband actually had a woman try to tell him they could still be identical. Evidently some people aren't quite familiar with the definition of identical.

6. "Are they the same age?" No, I had one a year after the other. Of course they're the same age!

7. "What were you thinking?" I thought it would be funny to release two eggs and have them fertilized at the same time. As if I really had control over the situation.

8. "You must have your hands full." Well, yeah I do. Seems pretty obvious. But I figure, better full then empty.

Fun article. People say the stupidest things. I have to agree with Afton though, I think people want to say something nice but often it comes out as a "duh moment". I should write a similar article about stupid comments about having 3 boys (don't you want a girl, poor you, etc). Well written article! Enjoy those beautiful babies (toddlers).

Funny comments. I wonder what people are thinking when they ask questions some times. Often I think people just want to say something nice, but don't know what to say so something silly or stupid comes out. I have 2 boys who are 20 months apart, look nothing alike, but happen to be pretty close in height. I am really surprised at how often I'm asked if they are twins. To me it seems like a pretty silly question. I think it would be fun and challenging to have twins...I admire the mother and father who are lucky enough to have that experience.

Hi Angelica, Great article. I never thought of what parents of twins go through. Geez! I confess I once asked a mother with twins are they twins? I realized my mistakes once my question came out. Hehe. I laughed outloud at "Of course they are the same age" Because I found myself screaming out the same thing as I read it. Great work!-for the twins and the article. Bye

My grandma asked a couple who had twins, a boy and a girl, "how do you tell them apart?" She later realized her question :) Nice article.
