The day approaches, but instead of anticipating showering her with presents, you dread it because you're broke - so broke that you wish the day would get skipped over. With your luck, it wouldn't get skipped over but would play over and over like that Bill Murray movie Groundhog's Day.

Don't fear, believe it or not there are ways to mark the day of love not only memorably, but also inexpensively. Here are just a few ideas to jumpstart creativity for those poor slobs who don't have two cents to rub together.

Romantic Poetry on Web

Poetry is romance. It's the vibrant verse, the lyric of love, and the award of amour. Before Hallmark and other greeting card companies, folks relied on poetry or even created it themselves. It's a good bet you're no poet, but who can honestly say they are. Now with the World Wide Web at our command, we can scour the net for all the romantic prose imaginable. Pick the finest, print them out using nice fancy fonts: Voila! Valentine's Day will be poetic if nothing else!

Buy Candy Post Holiday

Is this just plain cheap or out of necessity? Remember, even some of the cheaper chocolate hearts can be pricey. We all know prices are slashed the next day. Why not take advantage of that price drop? For the price of one costly sugary gift box, you can purchase two or more the next day. Yes, this doesn't address you being late or her getting perturbed, but unless you've got a time machine or magic spell, after holiday sales can only be taken advantage of the day after.

Download Romance Songs

IPods are so common now or their MP3 player cousins that song sharing and downloading have become common gift giving choices. Search for her favorite songs and throw in a bunch of classic romance numbers that will have her marveling at your love song knowledge. Best thing about this one is that it can literally be done last minute, at your desk or home in your underwear. Search, buy, download, email - done!
