Heart Attack Grill Novelty Restaurant Survives Nurses' Attack

Toilet Bowl Dining Among Other Novelty Restaurant Options

Heart Attack Grill in Tempe, Arizona is a restaurant that tells it like it is, with no political correctness intervening. Billing its food as "taste worth dying for," Heart Attack Grill names its burgers single, double, triple and quadruple bypass burgers.
Heart Attack Grill Novelty Restaurant Survives Nurses' Attack
The restaurant brags that its flatliner fries are cooked in pure lard. It offers Jolt Cola and no filter cigarettes for sale. But it's not the food at Heart Attack Grill that recently earned the restaurant an ominous letter from the State's Attorney General.

John Stossel explored the State of Arizona's gripe with the Heart Attack Grill this week on 20/20. Surprisingly, it's the wait staff that is the source of the complaint. The Attorney General challenged the restaurant's use of the title "nurse" to describe its wait staff. Dressed in skimpy "nursing uniforms" that would never see the light in any medical facility, the "nurses" not only serve the killer food but offer free wheelchair transportation to the curb when the meal is complete.

The Attorney General's letter was apparently prompted by a complaint from the Arizona Board of Nursing which objected not to the unhealthy food but to the sexualized portrayal of nurses. The nursing board has since decided not to pursue its complaint against Heart Attack Grill. So at least for now, Heart Attack Grill patrons remain free to eat their bypass burgers and flatliner fries, and have a nurse push them to their car in a wheelchair as part of the dining ambience.

Heart Attack Grill is only one of many novelty restaurants that uses a fun theme to attract diners.

Toilet Bowl Restaurant

What may contitute the oddest novelty restaurant in the world, in Taipei, Japan, is the Toilet Bowl. At the Toilet Bowl, diners choose between eating out of a basin shaped like a western toilet or an Asian "squat-pot."

Bed Restaurants

In New York and Miami, restaurants aptly named Bed have become fashionable. Diners eat on beds made up with sheets and pillows and choose from menu items with sexy theme names.

Oops, meant to say I saw the title on the 23rd but decided to use this as a way to motivate me to stick to my diet and avoid some chocolate therapy. I didn't completely avoid the chocolate but I liked this article much better than the chocolate. I'm going to count that as progress on my diet ;)
