The Detroit Lions' Thanksgiving Game: 5 Reason Why They Should Keep It

The Detroit Lions may be horrible, but watching them on Thanksgiving is still a tradition whether the rest of the country likes it or not. Here is why Detroit should keep the Thanksgiving Day NFL game:

The Detroit Lions' Thanksgiving Game: 5 Reason Why They Should Keep It

1. A Nationwide
 Tradition-

The NFL doesn't have nearly as much tradition as college football does and things like the Lions' Thanksgiving Day game are of even more importance. It's not just a Detroit tradition, it's an American tradition. Even though the Lions don't have Barry Sanders to watch anymore, they still play NFL football last I checked and the game is their tradition. People will still watch them no matter how bad they are.

2. As a Reminder...

...to be thankful that your team is not as bad as the Lions. Lions fans have to watch them all the other weeks. Watching the Lions on Thanksgiving gives other NFL fans a sense of perspective.

3. The Throwbacks-

Fans of awesome NFL uniforms rejoice, the Lions' Thanksgiving throwbacks are among the best jerseys in the game.

4. A Local Tradition-

Fans around Detroit remember going to the games in years past and enjoying family time watching the Lions. It's something that people have grown up with and taking it away would be devastating to many of them.

5. Variety is the Spice of Life-

Isn't it good to see a team you don't normally see on national TV despite how bad they are? I don't know about you but I'm incredibly tired of watching the Cowboys and the Giants every single week on TV.

There are too many teams in the NFL people don't even get to see play once because the networks shove the big-market teams down your throat every week and you only get 3-4 games each Sunday tops.

And the Lions, while usually bad, often have one or two special talents on the team such as Calvin Johnson to watch.
