Black Friday Shopping Safety Tips

What Every Shopper Should Know

It's almost that most joyous occasion, Black Friday! The day when shoppers all over America swamp local malls, department stores and anywhere there is an advertised sale. With the current dismal economic outlook, it would not be a stretch to say everyone wants a deal! Before you hit the streets in search of those dollar buys, there are a few things you should know regarding your safety. These Black Friday safety tips will help you stay safe this holiday season.

Even as the armies of innocent shoppers mob your local stores there are also a few criminal elements bound to want to take advantage of Black Friday. Here are some tips that will help you stay safe.

Leave the Purse at Home

Two words, purse snatchers and pickpockets! (Well guess that would be three words!) While shopping on Black Friday, leave your purse at home. Purses can and will get snatched. If you must wear a purse make it a harness type purse that is worn over your body. Preferably small and compact with a sturdy strap. Pickpockets love purses and pockets. To stop from having your pockets picked, dress in comfortable clothes that have reliable front pockets. Place your drivers license and credit cards in one pocket. Put your cash in another. You could leave your purse in the trunk, but trunks can be popped. We advise leaving your purse at home. In the event you are robbed, relinquish your purse immediately! There are desperate people out there that don't mind doing harm for a few bucks.

Shop with a Friend

Don't just swim with a friend, shop with one. Black Friday is not fun at all by yourself. And for safety's sake, shopping in a group or at least with one friend makes sense. Even if you separate in the store to grab those sales, text or call each other when you are ready to go. Leave the store together. Thieves are less likely to rob two women than one. Thieves like preying on the easy target. A lone woman is less likely to resist a robbery or worse than two together. Drive together as well!
