Parents who have children who wet the bed past their toddler years are often upset and confused about what to do when their kids are not "normal". They are often guilty of having the wrong responses to the problem, which if continued can make the situation even worse for the child and parents alike. I am going to list some tips of what to do.

Tip #1. Never scream at your child. Screaming at your child about something that most kids have no control over. Many parents make the mistake of getting highly upset with their child; they often feel like the child is doing it on purpose to upset them. This could not be further from the truth. Children who wet the bed, typically already feel horrible themselves a parent screaming about them wetting the bed can potentially cause the child self-esteem issues.

Tip #2. Act Maturely. Do not act childish or immature about the situation. You want to remember that the way you act, serves as a guide to how your child will act as well. If you lose your temper and act irresponsibly then your child will learn those bad habits as well. If you act maturely and do not stew over the accident then your child will learn from a good example and will be a better-adjusted adult.

Tip #3. Clean up accidents quickly. Never force your child to sleep in the wet clothes or bed sheets. Forcing a child to remain in the wet bed and clothes can cause the child to feel horrible. Some children need an increase in self-esteem in order to be able to succeed at mastering the over night problem of wetting the bed.

Tip #4. Seek medical help. If you have a child, who is over five and is not able to go all night without having an accident it is time to consider seeking the advice of a doctor. Some children are unable to stay dry overnight without the use of medications; others need to develop their bladder control abilities. Either way, the advice of a doctor can be very useful. The recommendations can range from just using a form of diaper to some medication.
