The world is a place filled with all kinds of rules and regulations. Every day people are careful to live their lives according to how someone else thinks they should. However, many people would still say that a "higher law" does exist. People agree and disagree about the laws of the land, but a rather large group of people have come to an understanding of God's laws. Some people look to the US Constitution or politics while others look to religious teachings or spiritual guidance for reasons to be obedient. Many important people throughout history believed it was right for one to obey his or her own interpretation of God's law, even if it meant going against the laws of the land. There are many logical reasons why some would chose to obey the laws of some higher being over any other law on Earth. Socrates and Sophocles, both wise and accepted geniuses in philosophy, wisdom, and literature, viewed it wrong to value laws of the land over any "higher law".
