Sneak Peek: India.Arie Is Back with New Song "Chocolate High"
India Arie, Grammy winner and songwriter, is readying to release her next album Testimony: Vol. 2, Love & Politics. Her last set of testimonies, Life & Relationships, was her first No. 1 debut on the
Billboard Top 200 albums chart. The setlist contained her hit "I Am Not My Hair" featuring Akon. The first version was only released as a single with just an acoustic guitar before Akon joined, helping her make it one of her most successful songs to date. Then only to find out the original version was joined by Pink and was released on iTunes. Now she's back with a new song and a new album in tow.
The song "Chocolate High" features Musiq Soulchild taken from her upcoming album due in stores on February 10th of next year. The neo soul singer-songwriter brings once again her smooth rich vocals layered over an R&B beat.
The song is about an addiction to a person. "The simplest way I can put it/ You become a habit/ The more I consume the more I gotta have it," she sings of never having enough. In the morning, she references him to her black coffee, sugar and cream and that's all she needs to get her day going every day.
Musiq comes in to compliment her story. She's got him under his skin and when she's not there, his nerves are shot when she's not around. He confesses his love for her.
He then describes that something about her love makes him want to open himself up. He knows they both want each other and suggest getting high off each other's essence. This is where the title "Chocolate High" comes from. With her soulful vibes, since her debut in 2001, India.Arie has distinctly sang of her African-American decent in subtle charming ways. "Chocolate High" is no different.
The second verse comes in with Musiq still taking the lead singing "I be tripping in so many ways if I/ Go several days without a taste of your love/ The finest cuisine." Arie comes in with confessions of cravings and a body hurting before comparing him to the rich sweetness of Hershey and Nestle.
