I have carpel tunnel syndrome and I am not proud of it. If you have carpel tunnel syndrome you know the feeling. It is a weak, stinging, numb, painful feeling in your wrist and hand. It can affect one wrist or both of your wrists. On a bad day for me it is both of my wrists. I have it in just one of my wrists today and it makes typing very hard and sometimes typing causes a carpel tunnel syndrome flare-up. If you have carpel tunnel syndrome you know that you don't have trouble every day. Some days are better then other days. Carpel tunnel syndrome is really a pinched nerve in your wrist that makes simple everyday tasks a challenge. Your doctor usually prescribes medicine and a brace for your wrist and if your carpel tunnel syndrome is really bad the doctor will suggest surgery. I like to wear my wrist brace at night and leave my hand as free as possible in the day so I can cook and wash without my brace getting wet.
Over the years of having carpel tunnel syndrome I have done some exercises that actually help it get better. I do them when I have a flare-up but I bet it would be great if I did it everyday flare-up or not. I have a ball that is about the size of a soft ball. It fits in my hand comfortably and it is made of marble. It is a shiny, heavy, marble ball about the size of a soft ball that I put in my hand when I have carpel tunnel syndrome. I slowly move my wrist and hand in a circular motion as I hold the ball till I feel the muscles working in my arm, hand and wrist. I don't move the ball very much just small movements in a circular motion. As I do this I can feel what muscles need the exercise and I concentrate on them more. If I don't have my ball I find a quart size jar that I fill up with water about three quarters full. I hold the top of the jar in my hand and gently move the jar in small circles just like I would my ball.
This is a great exercise to do as you are sitting and watching television. It is so simple and easy to do yet it does so much when you have a carpel tunnel flare-up.
