The Year that Brought Gasps, Disbelief and Dysfunction Straight from Hollywood

2008 in Review

2008 was full of scandal, confession and redemption. Politics ruled the headlines with a surprise announcement of who would be running alongside John McCain on the Republican ticket. Many of us
realized the power Sarah Palin brought to the political weight room and were nothing short of impressed. But there was plenty of room for celebrity scandals too. The first one that comes to mind combines politics and a touch of celebrity that painted a rather unpleasant picture.

Betrayal, Forgiveness and Illness

John Edwards, who was once the Democratic pick for president, has successfully managed to take a sordid affair, admit to it and manage to sweep it under the rug in record time, all the while, miraculously managing to avoid having to undergo a DNA test that would prove or disprove his paternity regarding Rielle Hunter's child. His wife, Elizabeth, has to be one of the most resilient women in our lifetimes. She has stood strong, made no apologies for her decision and continues to battle terminal cancer. We can only hope John Edwards realizes the gift he's been handed. I'm not so sure another woman would not have handed him his head instead.

Death of a Rising Star

Heath Ledger was found dead in his New York apartment January 22nd. His death has since been ruled an accidental overdose. This news was especially tragic due to the fact Ledger's star was really beginning to rise and shine. His family and ex-fiancé continue to grieve this loss and the family as a whole has come together to shield his and Michelle Williams' three year old daughter, Matilda. Meanwhile, rumors continue to swirl over the death of this talented actor.
