5 Films to Watch During the Holidays
It's December and Christmas is getting closer and closer. What are you going to watch!? I have 5 recommendations and they're not the typical flicks you watch on Christmas.
5. 30 Days of Night (2007)
This vampire story takes place in a small Alaskan town that is covered in darkness for 30
days.
Yeah it's not the greatest vampire movie ever made and suffers from pacing issues and the fact you never actually believe it takes place over 30 days. But it's still pretty damn good. The snowy setting is perfect for a holiday season viewing and the vampires are scary bloodthirsty beasts that deserve any horror fans attention.
It has lots of energy, a great cast and lots of nasty violence and wet gore. If that doesn't spell Christmas I don't know what does.
4. Postal (2008)
Uwe Boll's adaptation of the crazy PC game is raunchy, offensive, violent, stupid and downright entertaining.
Whatever you feel about Uwe Boll, put it aside. He has made the funniest movie of 2008. Forget about Tropic Thunder or Pineapple Express. Postal has them beat. The movie doesn't care about who or what it offends, it just does it. Is the story important? No. The film is about pure insanity and we watch as fat chicks get plowed by various men, people (including children) being shot up by gun fire and Osama Bin Laden and George Bush holding hands and strolling through the fields as nuclear bombs go off.
What are you waiting for? Go pick up a copy now or ask Santa for one. There might even be an extended cut of the movie coming out soon.
3. Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer (2008)
I've been going around and talking about this film to anyone who will listen for a good reason: It's so much damn fun.
I've heard so complaints though. There's not enough monster slaying! It's an origin story doofus what do you expect? That's what the sequel is for. But even without a lot of "monster slaying" the movie is pretty damn fun throughout. A top notch cast, lots of laughs, excellent practical make-up FX and an energy that cannot be beat. As I said in my review this movie is a throwback to those monster movies from the 1980's. How awesome is that?
