There are nearly as many ways to find a date as there are people who are looking for dates. Many people use their own looks, their wit, and their charm to find a date. Many people use the internet to find dates through the numerous personals websites that are available on the internet. For those of you who have met someone from the internet, or those of you who may be thinking of using the internet to meet someone, this article contains some helpful things that you should remember, as well as some things you should be aware of when meeting potential dates from the internet.

The first thing to be aware of is what the profiles say and what the profiles show. If the profile mentions that the person just ended a bad relationship, then chances are they are carrying a lot of emotional baggage and probably aren't what you're looking for. If the person has a profile, but doesn't post any pictures with the profile, it is possible that they may not have access to a digital picture to post, but it's also likely that the person is already seeing someone, or is married and cheating on their spouse. Also pay close attention to the person's picture and then to their age given in the profile. Granted, some people like to shave a year or so off their age so that they are perceived to be younger. If the person says they're 27 and they look like they're 35, then it's probably best to look elsewhere.

Once you've screened through the potential results you will either instant message or email the particular one who has caught your attention. Get to know as much as you can about the person. Get to know their backgrounds, their temperament, their personality, play 20 questions if you have to. If the person is really as interested in you as you are in them, then they won't mind.

Takeaways
  • Online dating can be fun, exciting and nerve wracking all at the same time
  • Make sure that you feel you know and feel comfortable with the person before you agree to meet the person offline
