Most of the local bus routes, which reach through many suburban towns, originate in downtown Hartford, Connecticut. Some of the busiest and most- utilized bus routes in Hartford, Ct are the "E", or Farmington Avenue bus routes.

Farmington Avenue is one of the most- traveled main thoroughfares in Hartford, Ct. The headquarters of the Aetna Insurance Company are on this street, as are a multitude of stores, restaurants and services. Stretching through neighboring West Hartford, Ct and into the Farmington Valley, where it becomes Route 4, Farmington Avenue features many destination- points for local residents. For a host of reasons, many people regularly ride the "E" buses, finding the service to be economical, convenient and efficient.

All "E", or Farmington Avenue bus routes start in downtown Hartford, Ct, at the Traveler's tower area. As of January 2007, the regular, or basic local service fare for Ct Transit buses is $1.25 per trip, with transfers available for many destinations. Transfers are only good for continuing a one- way trip on a connecting local bus. Children age four and under ride free, with a maximum of three with each adult. Local- service youth fare (Age 5- 18) is $1.00, while senior and disabled citizens ride for 0.60c per trip. The "E", or Farmington Avenue bus line in Hartford, Ct is divided into four major destination- spots, or final stops. These four lines are; the Farmington Avenue / West Hartford Center route, the Farmington Avenue / UCONN / Unionville route, the Farmington Avenue / Bishops Corner route and the Farmington Avenue / Westfarms Mall route.
