The new Yankee and Met stadiums in New York are currently being built and sports fans are in excitement at the thought of a new baseball stadium for their teams for the first time in more than fifty years. Both baseball stadiums are expected to be completed by the year 2009. The year 2009 will also commence the first year that both teams will play their first games in these new ballparks. As a going away present for the legendary Yankee stadium and the House that Ruth built, Major League Baseball is having the All Star game at Yankee Stadium in 2008. Thus, it will be about thirty years that have passed since the All Star game was held at Yankee Stadium.

The new Yankee stadium will still be called Yankee Stadium although the same could not be said about Shea Stadium and the Mets. The new Mets stadium will be changed in name to Citi Field. The Mets received millions of dollars from Citi Bank in return for the naming rights of the stadium. The details of the yearly contract were not disclosed but the Mets figure to use the extra revenue to help pay for the new stadium so that ticket prices don't skyrocket.

The new Yankee Stadium will be built in the Bronx like the old Stadium but the location in the Bronx will be different. The location sight will be the Macombs Dam Park which is directly across from the current Yankee Stadium. In fact, as a spectator watching the Yankee games, you can see the new Yankee Stadium being built. Yankee Stadium is currently the third oldest ball park in baseball and despite renovations over the years including increases in seating capacity, the Yankee organization believed that it was finally time for the team to have a new stadium. The new Yankee Stadium is being designed by HOK Sports designers who have done several designs for the construction of new sports venues and ball parks.

I understand the reasoning behind it, but I hate that the Mets' Stadium will be called Citi Field. Yankee Stadium, Wrigley, Shea, Fenway Park: those are ballparks you remember.
