In 2008 Beijing hosted the Summer Olympics and many were crowned as champions - many several times over. This list reviews those atletes that were at the top of their game in 2008.
No. 10 -Tirunesh Dibaba Kenene, Long Distance Running, Ethiopia
She is the current indoor and outdoor 5000m world record holder. In 2008, she won the gold medal in both the 5000m and 10000m at the Olympics. She also won the gold at the World Cross Country Championships and the African

Lezak came home from Beiing with 3 medals (2 gold, 1 bronze) - but may be most well-known for his anchor leg in the 4x100m freestyle relay. He overcame a full body length to touch before then world record holder, Alain Bernard, in that race.
No. 6 -Nastia Liukin/Shawn Johnson, Gymnastics, United States of America
With 9 medals between them (2 gold, 6 silver, 1 bronze), these two led the American gymnastic team into Beijing. Winning over many a fan with not only personality, but skill - America can look forward to 2012.
No. 5 -Natalie Coughlin, Swimming, United States of America
Coughlin became the 1st American female to win 6 medals in a single Olympics in 2008. She also became the 1st woman to retain a gold medal in the 100m backstroke - doing so in 58.96 seconds.
No. 4 -Kerri Walsh/Misty May, Beach Volleyball, United States of America
This duo didn't lose a single set in either of the past two Olympics. Their gold medal match victory in the 2008 Olympics was their 108th consecutive win. They are the only beach volleyball team to defend their Olympic medal.
