At first glance, Katie Couric's new hairstyle is not terribly flattering. The short hair does not frame her face that well. Katie Couric's face looked a bit harsh and square with the new short hair. The sideswiped bangs made her eyebrows look a bit asymmetrical. Yet this is only a first impression. Viewers may eventually embrace the new look.

It is understandable that Katie Couric would want to change her hair. Struggling to be taken seriously as hard news journalist, Katie Couric's former bob reminds viewers of her days on the Today Show. Katie Couric seeks to depart from her image as a soft-interviewing morning-show figure in order to embrace her role as an evening news anchor. Cutting her hair may be an attempt to achieve that. Katie Couric's new style sheds her cute perky image for a more serious (if not more severe) look.
