NY Giants Dilemma: If Plaxico Burress is Axed, Could it Be the Silver Lining for Amani Toomer?

You don't have to read the papers to know what a mess Plaxico Burress has himself in; with the latest being his arrest for possession of a firearm. Luckily for the big time money maker, after his arraignment he was able to post the $100,000 bond and leave quietly on his big white horse.

What does all this attention mean for the New York Giants'? I think it's safe to say, if the self-shooting could have been kept under the rug, the Giants would still be business as usual. Plaxico has certainly gained a lot of attention for

 the Giants; positively speaking, the winning touchdown of the Super Bowl XLII, lots of receptions and notable plays. However, the negative recognition seems to be adding up and taking a toll on the team and the NFL as a whole. During his professional career he has been suspended numerous times for team rule violations and been fined in excess of $40,000 for inappropriate conduct. His newest suspension has landed him on the bench for the rest of the season, without pay.

In a few fleeting moments, sports fans were guessing about the New York Giants' ability to play fair with their own team. Would it be an act of benevolence to the rest of the team to harbor Burress based off of field talent alone? If the team could be open and honestly polled, we would probably be surprised by their opinions. Some feel that Plaxico is a monster in the making and it appears that Burress himself has adopted an attitude of "indispensability".

With Burress facing the possibility of additional charges and actual jail time, what does this mean for the New York Giants? It's an opportunity for them to redeem themselves in what has appeared to be a lackadaisical tolerance for "oneness". This could be accomplished by reviewing Amani Toomer's contract, as it's soon up for negotiation.
