Yaz: FDA Approved Birth Control Offering Relief of Acne and PMDD

Over many decades, women have struggled with adult acne most often attributed to hormonal fluctuations. For these women, managing skin complications, through the use of diet and fluid intake, has become a common strategy to ward
off adult acne symptoms. For some women, however, the simple use of specific prescription medications, such as birth control pills, can turn a clear complexion into an acne prone complexion and vice versa. With the FDA's recent approval of Yaz, a birth control pill, women who suffer from adult acne may now find improvement in skin in a contraceptive.

Yaz, manufactured and distributed by Bayer, has commonly been regarded as a contraceptive birth control providing relief of premenstrual dysmorphic disorder symptoms, PMDD, and was given such approval by the FDA in recent years. Beyond these symptoms, Yaz has now been approved, by the FDA, for use in the treatment of adult onset acne; thereby giving name and recognition to Yaz as triple combination approach in women's health care.

Dosing of Yaz is made simple through the standard birth control dosing process but, unlike other birth control products, Yaz provides a woman with a 24 day dosing of active hormonal ingredients which boost a woman's levels of hormone so as to diminish the PMDD symptoms and, now, improve the appearance of skin. This 24 day dosing provides the necessary pregnancy prevention also desired by women followed up with a four day dosing of inactive pills which will, as a general rule, stimulate the onset of menses and then begin a new cycle once again.

As with any birth control pill, the use of Yaz does not come without side effects. Such side effects commonly include nausea, vomiting, changes in weight and headache pain. However, it is important to note these side effects are common in most birth control pills offered on the market today.

I've been on Yaz for 3 years now. I had unprotected sex with my boyfriend and it worked fine. It helps with my acne too. Love it.

I recently started YAZ to help with cystic ovaries and irregular periods. I've ALWAYS had perfect skin and now my face is covered like a 14 year old's. It's horrible and embarrasing! I've got it on my chest and back as well and my hair gets oily and needs to be washed in just 16-17 hours. I requested YAZ because my sis did so well on it. If after month 3 the acne is not gone though it's just not worth it for me at all. This is the 7th thread I've read and acne is a huge problem for a lot of people on it it seems. Most who've been here and done it say they switched to ortho trycyclen and it worked miracles. Something to consider...

I've been using yaz for about a year and i havent noticed any side effects at all.. my face cleared up COMPLETELY. and i have suffered acne ever since starting puberty up till i started the pill. and im 20. I never gained any weight either. I never experienced cold sores but then again i've never really had a cold sore in my life.. so i dont know if it has something to do with being in your genes. also, i got off the pill for about a month and my acne came back within a couple weeks. so i know it was yaz that cleared my face up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hope this helps!!

While on yaz I experienced minor, but painful cold sores. I started yaz when my immune system was low, so I was basically kicking myself with hormones when I was down. I was on it for about a month and two weeks and I had about 5 cold sores in a row, one at a time, about a week after I started taking yaz. I got off of it cold turkey and built my immune system back up by getting accupuncture and eating healthy. I've just recently started exercising daily for an hour each day. I stopped yaz in August and now it's late November. I think I'm ready to try a new form of birth control. Can anybody who experienced cold sores from yaz tell me what else they tried? I just got a prescription for the NuvaRing but I don't want to try it until I hear what others with my predicament have to say. I was considering the non hormonal IUD, but I've never had kids and the doctor said I should try pills or the Ring first and see how my body reacts. I hate cold sores, they ruined my whole summer. Please, can

I have been from pill to pill and can't seem to find one that is right for me. My main problem now is trying to find one that does not contain lactose, anhydrous lactose or lactose monohydrate. I can't seem to find a non-medicinal ingredient list for YAZ anywhere online, and I was wondering if someone knew the answer, could post the ingredients, or tell me what website they are actually on. Thanks.

My 13 year old daughter started taking the pill 3 weeks ago for severe pain during menstruation. 4 days after starting the pill she broke out (for the first time ever) with several cold sores on her lips and inside her mouth. It has been more than 2 weeks now and she has dozens and dozens of sores inside her mouth and down into her throat. We spent the day in the emergency room today for dehydration and they pumped her with a big dose of Acyclovir which she has been taking orally without any results for two weeks. I am absolutely 100% convinced the pill has something to do with this. None of the doctors think it does, but I decided today I'm taking her off the pill after a bunch of stuff I've read on the internet today.

The spot bleeding def lessens. I'm mid way through month 4 and I started to bleed a little yesterday and today. When I first started I bleed everyday. PMDD is better. Still getting acne but better I think. I've had weight gain, not sure if it's the pill or a metabolism change or simply over-eating. My boobs seem bigger.
