The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: A Look at the Funniest Series of All Time

There are very few books that I enjoy as much as The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series, the first time I read the books it was as close to a spiritual experience as I am like to have. To me Douglas Adams is a literary deity, and someone I look up to and occasionally mourn that I never had the chance to meet. On to the review! The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
This trilogy (consisting of five books, and the wackiness only starts there) is the creation of author Douglas Adams. One of the greatest series of all time, in my humble opinion. It centers around the adventures of hapless Englishman Arthur Dent and his old pal Ford Prefect. Arthur is having a bad day when we first meet him since his house is about to be bulldozed to pave way for a highway.
Things get even worse for the poor fellow when his pal Ford shows up and explains to him that the world is about to end. Don't get me wrong, this is no Apocalypse, no end to the universe, just backwater Earth being destroyed to make way for an interstellar spaceway. Parallels indeed!
Ford himself is from a planet in the Betelgeuse star-system and is on Earth to write an article for The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. This cool little gizmo is like a PDA with advice on just about everything, though paramount and the first thing you see is; Don't Panic! The only part of Ford's extensive article that shows up for Earth is the entry; Mostly Harmless. Sums it up quite nicely when you take into consideration some of the other planets the series introduces us to. Oh and did you know the most essential survival tool in the galaxy is a towel? You do now.
Here is just an example of the wonderful humor behind the series:
There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something more bizarrely inexplicable.
There is another theory which states that this has already happened.
