February 4th SuperBowl XLI and CBS will have around 90 million viewers. That means big bucks to advertisers. Advertisers are listening to the people and they understand that viewers want to be interactive.

This year companies and organizations are offering fans, for the 1st time, to pitch their ideas for Superbowl commercials. One such contest was sponsored by the NFL themselves. The winner, Gino Bono, was flown to LA to watch his commercial being shot. He and a guest will also be flown to Miami, Florida to watch the big game when his commercial airs.

Doritos is running a similar contest. The public is invited to go online and vote for a winner on Yahoo Video. Voting is ongoing until January 19th. This commercial will also aired during the Superbowl. We the people really are the "Person of the Year" it would seem.

New to the line-up this year is Emerald. The usual advertisers will be seen including Anheuser-Bush, Frito-Lay, CareerBuilder.com General Motors and GoDadddy.com. Some advertisers have bought as many as 10 spots. The high spot runs approximately 2.6 million but it gets slightly lower if you're in the 3rd quarter, approximately 2.0 million.

Special appearances will include Prince, the rocker, in a Pepsi commercial and Cirque Du Soleil for pre-game entertainment. Rumor has it that a lot of humor will be delivered in this year's ads and expects some glam too. So set back and bring on the snacks!

Takeaways
  • This is the 1st time fans were asked to be involved with pitching the commercials.
  • Prince will be performing.
  • Fun and humor will be delivered even when the football is not in play.

OK, I admit it, I like Prince. I was 12 when Purple Rain came out (yes I'm almost 39) and I think to be a Prince fan you have to of been a pre-teen and watched that movie. And the man can play a guitar. I agree, too much to pay for an ad. Some people have too much money..Nancy

Yay for Superbowl ads! Well, the Bears didn't win...I rooted for them just because they were the underdogs; I didn't really like Prince's performance; but...as always, the ads were rather amusing. some of them were rather violent, but many were just outright hysterical! isn't amazing how much money advertisers are willing to pay for a 30 second spot??? crazy! good job on your article! :)
