Recruiters: How to Turn Resumes into Cash
Recruiters are in the unique position of being in a profession where everyone they meet can benefit them. But, many don't take advantage of this opportunity.
If you are a recruiter and don't have an extensive database, following are effective ways to use resumes to grow an extensive database quickly and
inexpensively.
Free Resume Banks: If you recruit in a specific segment, find free job boards with resume banks. Craigslist.org is a great example of this.
Send emails/make calls to those seeking employment and ask them to send you their resume. Tell them that you recruit within "X" industry and are always on the lookout for talented people.
Let them know that the first step in getting a job is for you to have their resume on file. Many will be happy to send you their resume. Ask them if you can contact them via email with future job openings. Almost 100% will say yes.
How to Turn Resumes into Cash!
a) Create an email list: Once you get a resume and the person has given you permission to email them with job openings, create an email list.
You might want to sign up with a list management company like Constant Contact (ConstantContact.com). That way, you can send unlimited email campaigns.
Import the email address of everyone who has given you permission to email them with job openings into a file. When you get an opening, email it to your entire list.
Always include a message that says something to the effect of: "If this position is not for you, please forward it to someone you may know who is qualified. Or, forward their information to me and I will contact them. After all, you never know when you might be in the market and someone returns the favor."
I can't tell you how many positions I've filled by doing this. Also, many times someone who received the message called me and asked to be added to the list.
b) Create a Database of Companies: Resumes are an invaluable source of information. Why? Because they list previous employers. It's just takes a little research to find out the phone number and location of the companies listed.
