How You Too Can Help the US Economy Get Better: Really, It's Not that Difficult

Don't Horde Your Cash, Spend It. Only Then Will the US Economy Improve

In times of economic crisis, things always seem a bit hopeless. You worry about the US economy, you worry about losing your job, you worry about losing your house so, what happens? You stop spending money. This then has a ripple effect on the US economy and
the economy gets worse. You can, however, decide to have a different attitude, one of hope, and do what you can to help the bad US economy. It's not that difficult to help the US economy get better and, thus, help the world economy. If everybody in America did one or two of the things I suggest, the economy would improve rapidly. So, why don't you too change your way of thinking and decide to help the US economy instead of hurting it? Here are a few ways how.

Buy Christmas Gifts From a Local Artist - I've just spent half my morning buying Christmas gifts from store owners on Etsy.com. Etsy only sells handmade products and the people who make them actually sell them. If you buy a Christmas gift from someone on Etsy.com, not only are you helping the US economy, but you're also cutting out the middleman and helping an individual 'starving' artist at the same time. Etsy has millions of items listed, all unusual, all beautiful and many at really great prices. So, buy your Mom, Dad or friend a Christmas gift from Etsy. They will love their unique gift and your Etsy seller will love you too. Plus, if I know many Etsy sellers, they will then turn around and spend that money on another individual Etsy seller. See....the ripple effect at work, in a good way!

Sure the economy is based on consumption, but it turns out there is only so much you can eat before your stomach explodes.

as a contractor i think the stimulus package for first time home buyer should go first to buyers who chose to buy old homes that need remodeling . this will start generating handy man jobs.for, say a year then secondly for those who want to buy new homes already constructed. then after those who want to have their own archi building. since the bush administration did'nt check the home sale inflated prices it would be good to sell that which is on the market before new homes are constructed.

Oh and I'm still spending. Buying a new rabbit cage this weekend, and planning on going to Carrefour (supermarket!) in a couple of hours to spend my usual 50 bucks on food for the week etc. Bought 6 books this week, plus a skirt, a bag, 2 storage baskets, some jewelry, 5 pairs of slippers and a bunch more stuff. I'm definitely doing my part to help the Thai economy ;-)

Tommy, HOW does stop spending help the US economy. It doesn't. Every economy in the world is trying to get their citizens to start spending, even Nobel economists are saying the secret to stimulating world economies is for consumers to spend. So, yes, I completely disagree with your article (as I think will most economists :-)

I am going to have to say that I disagree with pretty much everything in this article. Reading the reader comments would suggest that I am the minority. Nonetheless, I had to write a counter-argument: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1375673/help_the_us_economy_recover_stop_spending.html?cat=3 Good job on the monthly AC earnings tho!

Some (ok, many) panic prematurely. However spending money only helps the economy in the long run if people spend only what they can afford. Lots of people's pocketbooks are in total disaster because they spent more than they should have.

yes, yes, yes. too many morons are panicking and sending the economy even more down. I'm still spending and expect to continue to do so. Good information.

Yep, people do panic. I haven't changed my spending habits at all in the past months, but just about everyone I know has. Anyways, good article and good ideas. :)
