Yesterday I received a message from MySpace about a picture I reported 4 months ago, believe it or not. I wasn't surprised that it took that long to respond to me, but the answer I did receive surprised me.

To give some background on the picture in question I ran across a random MySpace while searching for my sister-in-law and the front page picture drew my attention into the space. After looking at the picture I was amazed to see a girl who said she was 16 years old not only drinking a beer in one picture but also smoking a bong in another picture and looking really out of it in another picture. Her fourth picture was a shot of her nude except for a pair of underwear and she was showing her breasts from the front.

I'm not trying to appear as a prude but I found myself being concerned that a young adult would post pictures like that especially when the fourth picture violated the policy of no nudity on MySpace.

So back to my message from MySpace. They informed me that none of the pictures violated MySpace's policy. This amazed me and the pictures are still there. But this brings to question: What is/should be acceptable on MySpace?

I did some research on nudity on MySpace and found that everyday people were being reported to the administrators at MySpace for nude art and they are having their accounts banned for it, but young adults and even 14 year old's are being allowed to get away with posting nude photo's of themselves on MySpace. Some of the young adults get caught, but a lot do not.

I'm not saying all young adults are able to get away with posting nude pictures of themselves on MySpace but it seems to be a hit or miss situation as to what is acceptable and not acceptable over at MySpace. Maybe it depends on who is answering the complaints for that day, maybe not.

You know Chelsea, I think we can agree to disagree with each other on this issue. See, you're anonymous when you post, so unless you're showing this to your friends you don't need to take what some adult said seriously. It is my article and I can respond to negative and positive comments on it. I'll also stand by the positive emails I receive about this. I apologize if you don't agree with me. I hope you weren't angry when you first read this, I hope you laughed at it and thought, 'adults just don't understand'. Look, there is no stalking here, I still don't understand where you got that idea from since there are millions of Chelsea's in the world and I have no idea who you really are. But, I can still tell you that I have only reported 4 people to MySpace for showing themselves on the site naked. Maybe they were spam and not real, but maybe they were real. It just doesn't sit well with me that some 45 year old guy is at home getting off to some 13 year old's naked picture, you know?

obv. you dont read. i just said 16 sweetie. and no i dont not all teenagers are the same in case you noticed. And you know what. No i dont agree with them doing that, but thats who they are and how they want to be looked at, i dont agree with that but most certainly it is NOT your area to do that to someone you dont even know. she is NOT your daughter so reallly you have no area to do such thing. and if it really buggs you so much delete YOUR myspace? really no age is a number it does not determine your maturity or personality. maybe you should think of that. no im just speaking for "children" who get looked down apon by little stuck up people who enjoy sticking their noses in other peoples business way to god damn much.

Ok, no need for the anger, I was joking you know. Curious, how old are you? And are you putting that stuff up on MySpace too? I've received a lot of emails telling me others are doing the same thing when they see similar content on MySpace, some as young as the girl in the pictures. Trust me, I had the same mind set as you do when I was 16, screw adults and authority. I still revert back to my younger says now and then =) but think of all the negative things that come out of girls doing that on MySpace. And getting naked is a violation of their terms and does result in loosing your profile on the site, just an FYI if you didn't know that. No stalking here, I flagged and moved on. Come back in 10 years and tell me if you would let your daughter do that too. You would be surprised, I'm not a completely crusty old woman like you might think I am along with other adults.

was that really necessary? don't really think so. thats another thing with adults yall think you know everything and "kids" or teenagers know nothing and are oblivious to what is going on in your minds and the real world. Well congratulations you have made a joke about what a 16 year old said and made youself look like a stalker jack ass... yet another reason society is so fucked up.

But Chelsea it wouldn't be fun then. See, this is what old farts (28 years old) like me do all day, we go after the kids we were like when we were their age. You'll get there too someday when you have kids of your own, trust me. If you didn't guess by now, I was joking =)

Wow, this is really interesting. I rarely mess with MySpace and while I have seen a lot of provocative pictures on there, I've never seen the nudity ones and I would've never guessed that MySpace would ignore it. Thanks for bringing this to light.

Wow, this makes me really concerned about my stepson who practically lives on MySpace...or maybe I should say that now I know why he does? Hmmm....

You were right to report it, so you know you did your best. Probably her parents don't care as much as you did, if she's getting away with such things at 16. How sad.

This is frightening.

How sad that Myspace can't keep a handle on this problem.

The problem with reporting things to MySpace is that they are too big. It's hard to track everybody, and I'm sure there are numerous loopholes.

I belong to MySpace and have had to report numerous accounts of abuse from other members, they seem as if they are far too evasive to prevent the cause. Wonderful article, as always. :)
