The general conception about love between a couple is one of constant (or near constant) physical presence, intimacy and communication. Basically, an up and close physical interaction and exchange between two people, to the greatest degree possible.

Enter the 'long distance' love concept which shatters the above traditional concept of love relationships. 

So, what is long distance love? Long distance love commonly referred to as 'remote' or 'over-the-phone love', is everything about love but with the lack of the "physical contact" or aspect of love between a couple.

Long distance love relationships are generally considered to be short-lived and or unworkable. However, the large numbers of couples successfully engaged in long distance love relationships affirms and attests to the fact that these kinds of relationships are workable if not viable.

Long distance love relationships often come into being as a result of a couple being forced apart by issues which may include, but not limited to such situations as work station transfers, lengthy travel schedules, study tour periods, etc. The individual(s) are torn apart from a common city, state and or country of residence. Whatever the case, there is an element of imposed distance and therefore severed physical interaction between the two.

By ordinary standards, long distance love relationships may be a tough act to sustain or maintain. It is easy for these relationships to come under severe strain and eventual break-up due to the lack of the vital cementing physical aspect of any regular relationship. Matters are not helped either if the disconnect is for a long and extended period of time. The two individuals can only keep in touch with each other by way of the internet or by the phone.

At this stage, a couple may be forced to make a tough choice between keeping the relationship and ending it. The question of the point of keeping a relationship without a physical touch or attention to it might seem a very plausible one in this kind of a situation.
