Great Gift Plants for Easter, Mother's Day or Anytime

Growing, living plants which are easy to care for make great gifts for Easter or Mother's Day. Make sure that you select strong, healthy plants and your gift will surely bring smiles for a long time to come.

Choosing the Right Gift Plant

When choosing a great gift plant for Waster or Mother's Day, you should keep a few things in mind. If the person who you are giving the plant to is a gardener, why not choose something that can be planted outside in the garden after danger of frost has passed?

If you are choosing a gift plant for an apartment dweller, you might want to consider something that will do well indoors, or something that is (sigh) a little more disposable.

Mums

Mums are great flowering plants. They will make fantastic Easter or Mother's Day gifts. The flowers are chock full of small thin petals. They flower profusely and are just lovely. You can get Mums in a variety of colors from red to yellow to purple. In addition, if they are planted in the garden at the beginning of the summer, they should be able to establish themselves and return for yours to come.

When choosing Mums, pick out dark green vigorous plants. Check the leaves and flowers to make sure there are no bugs. Make sure that the plant appears vibrant and has no brown or wilting spots.

You should choose a plant which has many blooms which are not yet open. You will probably want one or two flowers to be opening so that the plant looks great as an Easter or Mother's Day gift and so that you can tell what color it is. Just make sure that there are lots of flowers yet to open.

Bulbs

Bulbs also make great gift plants for Easter or Mother's Day. Many come in arrangements or baskets and are 'forced' for blooming at holiday time. There are many types of bulbs to choose from. These tend to be somewhat disposable, so they make great gifts for apartment dwellers or non gardeners.

Again, when choosing your gift plants, make sure that not all the flowers are opened. Bulbs especially will have a limited number of flowers. You may not want to choose a plant that has any flowers which have opened at all.
