In an age where technology is a teen's dream are parents giving up any responsibility over their own children? MySpace is the latest coporation to be sued by negligent parents who want someone to blame other then themselves for their children.

In the year 2006 parents have even more dangers and hurtles to overcome when it pertains to raising children. As society and technology changes with the times so should parents. Today children and teens face dangers that when our parents were younger never thought in a million years would be an issue. Now with chat rooms and instant messaging it is a virtual playground for predators. Dateline on NBC has just touched upon these issues as they try to catch child predators.

As a 29 year old responsible adult I do have a MySpace profile and see the effects everyday of a parent who doesn't pay attention their children's actions. I see profiles of young girls who claim to be 17, 18 and sometimes 21 but are really 12-14 years old. I also see the language they use in comments to boys and blogs and the constant references to gang terms and sex. My first initial reaction is "where the heck are their parents?" The latest suit on www.cnn.com claims that four families have filed lawsuits claiming their underage daughters were sexually abused by men or boys they met through MySpace. All of their daughters were under the age of 16. Now please don't misunderstand I can see the parents not being happy that a predator was able to contact their children but it's not physically or technologically possible to monitor millions of profiles on MySpace. It is not the sites responsibility to make sure children aren't lying about their age and aren't conversing with known predators or in some cases predators who have never been caught to be registered.

I agree. It's pretty sad how no one wants to be responsible for their own actions.
