Easter is hopping along soon and you want to make it EGGstra special for the little ones. You came to the right place! You will want to buy a bunch of plastic eggs and easter stickers and a tablet or post-it-notes shaped in a fun easter shape. You may want some shiny coins or small prizes or candies as well. You will want one big prize to be the treasure at the end. It can be one prize for one winner or it can be (better yet) something for all the participants who worked together as a team to share.

You will need to consider the ages of the participants as well as the location you will be having the treasure hunt. The very first clue is the one you will have on you, to present to the treasure seekers to begin the hunt. It will direct them to the next clue. You should take a clipboard and pen and go outside, if that is where you are having it, or around the house if it will be an inside hunt, and see what kind of places you could hide an egg with a clue in it. You will make up the clues, trying not to make them too easy.

Don't just put "wagon" for example. If a clue is in a wagon you should try to be clever about it and say, "I'll fix your little red _____" or "A dog's tail is often _____" and let them figure it out. Some clues can be in mirror writing or a puzzle type clue they have to solve. It is always fun to have a clue where they have to look around for something nearby and follow it, such as a trail of shiny pennies, which would lead them to the next clue.

  • What you need
  • How to make up the clues
  • How to decorate the eggs the clues are hidden inside of

This is a great idea, fun for kids and adults (I have a friend whose grown family loves Easter egg hunts). This would also be perfect for a birthday party. You are right about making the clues just hard enough to be fun. That's the joy that comes with solving things along the way too. Great, great article.
