Whether you're a band who is just starting out or you have hundreds of people coming out to see you or your band play a show, Los Angeles has a great variety of clubs for playing music. This guide provides some information on the most popular places to put on a great show.

1. The Derby
Located at 4500 Los Feliz Blvd., The Derby is a really great Hollywood venue for singer/songwriters or bands. The space provides a grand piano on the main stage and has another smaller room, the BackBar, which is great for acoustic or smaller acts. Occasionally, the BackBar acts as a VIP room or as a host room for DJs. The BackBar has three projection screens that can air the performances from the main stage or just broadcast a television show. Clean and spacious, The Derby is definitely on the upper end of the music scale, despite its obscure location and outside design. For more information, visit www.clubderby.com.

2. Hotel Cafe
Accommodating independent singer/songwriters and major artists, the Hotel Cafe is a well known venue in Los Angeles. The recent Hotel Cafe Tour brought attention to the venue with artists like Joshua Radin, Cary Brothers and Joe Purdy. The venue is comprised of a small stage which has a piano and the room provides a laidback ambiance with its dim lighting and retro feel seating. The venue, when at its full capacity, often times leaves a trail of hopeful fans outside to listen from the exterior. Smaller acts seem to delight their fans by being more accessible while bigger names often leave fans disappointed by not being able to accommodate them. However, the venue overall is nice and calming. Visit www.hotelcafe.com to learn more.
