Even if you have never made soap before, you should be able to easily complete this simple Sand Dollar project in less than 2 hours. You should expect to pay about $15 - $20 for materials, but you can get a lot of small Sand Dollar soaps out of one batch.
Bridesmaids and grooms can help with this simple Sand Dollar soap craft, but they will need supervision because you will be working with hot materials.
To make some Sand Dollar soaps You Will Need:
Sand Dollars (1 - 4)
Round cookie cutters (the same size as your sand dollars)
1 lb Block of Heat and Pour Soap
Essential Oils (optional)
1 microwave safe measuring cup or bowl
cookie cutters
clay
wax paper
knife
1lb blocks heat and pour soap is available at craft supply stores in glycerin or coconut base. It is a simple product to work with a very affordable.
Essential Oil, which is optional, is also available at almost any craft or art supplier store. Essential oils are great if you want to add a tropical fragrance to the soap like coconut, vanilla, melon, eucalyptus, or even cinnamon.
Now, the first step is to roll out clay on a piece of wax paper. You want to set in your rounded cookie cutter into the clay but do not cut all the way through.
Now, take your sand dollar and drop it into the cookie cutter. Face down. You want to press the sand dollar into the clay. You are trying to capture the detail on the surface of the sand dollar in the surface of the clay.
I recommend pressing down until the back of the sand dollar is flush with the clay.
Now, remove the sand dollar.
Now, Cut your one-pound soap block into 1" squares. Next, place it into a microwave safe cup. You want to melt it for 15 seconds on high. If soap is not completely melted microwave in 5-second increments until fully melted. It is important to not overheat your soap block material.
