When a couple gets engaged, most can't wait to spread the word. In most cases, it's the women that will spill the beans first. Most go around to their girlfriends, flaunting that huge diamond ring that her honey gave her for Valentine's Day. Some couples are old fashioned however, and they want to wait for their engagement party to let everyone know about their engagement. Hosting an engagement party doesn't have to be a stressful situation. It's really supposed to be a joyous time for the couple, not something that will cause them to bicker because of all the weight on their shoulders. You don't have to have a lavish party to share your love for one another. Having a simple engagement party is a great idea. After all, you'll have to start saving for your dream wedding, so if you can save money from the beginning that's even better.
First you have to think about buying the invitations. You don't have to spend a fortune on fancy invitations. If you have a computer and a printer at home you can print your own. Most discount and craft stores have sets of invitations that are just as beautiful as the fancy ones, but they're only about a fraction of the price.
When choosing the food for your engagement party, don't forget to consider finger foods. You don't have to have a catering company come to your party and serve prime rib and lobster. It doesn't have to be a sit down dinner to be delicious. You can get a party sub from your local sub shop and serve it with some potato salad or coleslaw. Another good idea is to get some wings or fried chicken. You can buy a couple fruit and vegetable trays to go on the side and everyone will leave with a full tummy. Plus, if you have finger food at your engagement party, everyone can walk around and mingle more. You're not stuck in the same spot all night long. As for your cake, you can get that from your local grocery store. Most grocery stores have bakeries that make beautiful cakes for a very low price.
