On Thursday, January 18, 2007, the Fars News Agency (FNA) in Iran reported witness observations of a radiant Unidentified Flying Object (UFO) flying over the skies of Iran. The UFO was observed in the sky of Central Sepidar in the vicinity of Bouyer Ahmad in western Iran from 7:10pm to 8:30pm local time Wednesday, January 17, 2007.

Witnesses observed the radiant UFO flying in sky for more than an hour at a low altitude. The UFO was described as being about the size of a ball, with a yellow ray and a bright reddish color in the center.

Although Iranian officials declined to comment on the UFO event, they have commented on a similar event of a UFO crash which occurred approximately two weeks prior. At that time, the Unidentified Flying Object crashed in Barez Mounts in the central province of Kerman. The crash, which resulted in an explosion followed by a spiral of thick smoke, occurred on January 10, 2007.

The Barez Mountain crash was reportedly witnessed by people in several cities within Iran and occurred 100 kilometers from the provincial capital city of Kerman. The witnesses reported that a radiant UFO was the object that crashed to the ground and caused the subsequent explosion. Some of the witnesses reported to the FNA that they saw what appeared to be thick smoke emanating from the UFO prior to the crash, and it appeared to be on fire.

The Deputy Governor General of Kerman province Abulghassem Nasrollahi commented to the Fars News Agency (FNA) about the earlier incident. He stated that the crash caused no casualties or damage to properties. He went on to deny speculation of the UFO crash being the result of a plane or chopper crash because all of the passing aircrafts had been reported as sound and safe. He did not, however, completely dismiss the possibility that the crashing object could possibly have been a meteor. However, due to the presence of smoke reported by eyewitnesses, some have speculated that this UFO could not have been a meteor. Nasrollahi further explained that police and other relevant authorities were still investigating the matter.
