Computer Cooling
Heat is one of the computers' worst enemies. It is caused due to the current flowing in the circuits inside a computer. There are many solutions to get rid of heat in a computer. Air flow is very helpful for cooling components inside. Fans are very common in computers; they create air flow by rotating wings and sending air on a certain direction. Some Desktops have more than one fan, so that one fan throws the hot air out while the other fan is throwing cool air in. Heat sinks are commonly seen on top of CPUs. They act as a block of metal with very low thermal resistance to dissipate the heat. To transfer the heat from the CPU to the heat sink, between the two components there is a paste that is a Thermal Interface Material (TIM). This paste also has low thermal resistance, to dissipate heat from the CPU to the heat sink. Recent CPUs made, have been producing a lot more heat than usual, so the demand for heat sinks have increased.
Another way of cooling your computer is with a method called "liquid cooling." Liquid cooling is basically the same as a car radiator except it is used in computers. It circulates a liquid through the heat sink to get rid of the heat coming from it. When the liquid reaches the heat sink (attached to the CPU), the heat is transferred to the liquid. After the liquid travels to the radiator located normally at the back of the case, the liquid's heat gathered from the heat sinks it is then let out to the outside atmosphere. When the liquid cools, it goes through the same rotation again, to collect more heat from the heat sink.
Those who have liquid cooling installed in their computer, often overclock their CPU to get the most speed. Although overclocking makes the CPU heat up more (because of the amount of work is doing), liquid cooling reduces a great amount of the CPU's heat. Usually, when computers are overclocked and do not have liquid cooling or a good cooling system, they tend to lag. When the CPU lags, it means it is unable to keep pace, meaning it slows down. Extreme gamers need the best performance so that they have zero lag and have a better game performance. To do so, they make sure their computers have a great cooling system.
