Did you to summer camp as a kid and love it? Want to send your children to one so they can have the same exciting adventures? Summer camp is a great thing for most kids. They meet new people, and experience healthy fun filled outdoor activities. North Carolina is a great state to visit in the summer. Most of our summers especially in the Mountains are mild. They won't be so hot they can't stand the thought of anything but swimming. Of course they will get to do plenty of that as well! I have compiled a list of North Carolina Summer Camps for you to choose from.

Mondamin

This is a camp for boys ages 6 to 17 in the mountains of Western North Carolina. Some of their activities include hiking, kayaking, canoeing, sailing, mountain biking, rock climbing, and horseback riding. The camp was built in 1922 on 350 acre Lake Summit. They also have 800 acres of woodland property for the camp. The camp includes an indoor rifle range, 4 tennis courts, a barn, 3 riding rings and a 60 foot climbing tower. They also have a gym with an indoor climbing wall. Their rates and dates are listed on the site, and financial assistance is available.

Green Cove

This is the sister camp to Mondamin, for girls age 6 to 17. The activities are pretty much the same as at Mondamin. The girls will sleep 5 or 6 to a cabin, with girls in their age group, and from different parts of the country. The girls can spend the whole time at the camp or spend some out of camp on wilderness trips. For rates, dates, and directions go to their site.

Camp Cheerio

Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Western North Carolina. This is a YMCA camp founded in 1960 by the High Point North Carolina YMCA. They also have senior adult camps and other camps. The Cheerio Adventure camp is for boys and girls ages 7 to 15 and offers 25 different activities.

On a side note, I recently visited Camp Cheerio while I was working (FedEX) and it looked great.
