At some point during seniorhood, many seniors will face the challenge of having less opportunities to get out of the house. Many seniors are home for longer periods of time than in earlier days and boredom can sneak up fairly quickly when you're home more than before. There are many things that can help to bring some entertainment into the home, though, to help beat the boredom.

Forget the Video Store--Have the Movies Delivered to Your Mailbox

A few years ago a new movie revolution took place as internet companies began to offer customers movie rentals over the internet that are delivered right to your mailbox. Online movie services such as netflix.com and blockbuster.com offer customers movie packages that start as low as $9.99 per month. Customers can choose from thousands of movies online and save them in their online shopping cart to be sent one after another, as soon as a movie is returned. These movie services are ideal for seniors who have a computer in the home and enjoy movies but do not have the means or patience to make it to the local video store on a regular basis.

Seniors can order entire television series DVDs or look for a classic favorite movie at sites like netflix.com and have the convenience of simply ordering, viewing, and placing the DVD back in the postage paid envelope to ship back. Once the DVD is returned, a new movie is shipped, giving customers plenty of movies to entertain on a regular basis.

Internet Entertainment

With today's technology and a little computer and internet education, seniors can spend hours each day surfing the internet. Online shopping offers the convenience of ordering from your favorite stores and having the order delivered to your doorstep. Everything from health and beauty items to groceries can be ordered online now, making it easier for seniors to purchase items and shop without leaving the house.

Great suggestions! I agree about the computer skills! We mostly take digital pictures these days and would love to be able to keep in touch with my husband's grandmother through e-mail, but she doesn't have a computer.

Seniors really should take the time to pick up computer skills. It does help stay in touch with grandkids if nothing else!
