The skin restorative qualities of The Aloe Vera plant inspired many flattering nicknames, such as Lily of the Desert, Plant of Life, Wand of Heaven, and even Plant of Immortality. The fact of the matter is, that it has more healing qualities than any other plant variety in existence.

Two of the numerous uses offered by the gel found within the Aloe leaves include the treatment of burns and wounds. Aloe Vera possesses healing properties that begin to work instantly, and sooth. The plant is also an effective antibacterial, and contains chemicals that work in synergy with the immune system. When fresh Aloe Vera treatment is applied, there is noticeably less scarring, and when used on burns, blistering is reduced. Irritation, inflammation, and uncomfortable itching are easily relieved by cutting open the leaves, and gently applying the gel as a natural skin care treatment. Aloe Vera also works very well as a remedy for acne, eczema, psoriasis and insect bites. Although the possibility exists, very few people are allergic to fresh Aloe Vera gel. In order to make sure that you have no allergies to the plant, test it on a small area, before fully applying it. In addition to the healing qualities of this plant, applying it to the skin on a daily basis, results in firmness and elasticity.

It is advisable to have several of your own Aloe plants which are organically grown, without the use of pesticides. The reason for this is because of the fact that the medicinal qualities of the plant, are more effective when used right away. Store bought gel, although still effective, will never compare to the effectiveness of a freshly cut Aloe leaf, because of the time that elapses form harvest to retail display.
